"Then the righteous will answer Him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in or needing clothing and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go visit you?' The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me." (Matthew 25:37-40)
At Faith, we believe God’s love extends to all people. We can become the Hands and Feet of Christ by reaching out to our community and our world with compassion and through acts of service. We encourage and empower each person to seek out opportunities to practice their faith by being in ministry to one another.
Faith has lived out this vision in many ways over the last seven years. These efforts have included an adult mission trip to New Orleans to help with the rebuilding effort following hurricane Katrina, recent youth mission trips to Tennessee and to the Galveston area, numerous back-to-school and Angel Tree campaigns, and food/clothing drives, care packages sent to our troops, and a partnerships with other area churches to build a Habitat for Humanity home for a Denton family, and to serve weekly breakfasts to the homeless in our community. We have also committed to support a group of 89 orphans in Kenya as they go through the "Giving Hope" program of the ZOE Ministry.
Please consider the ways you are being called to serve others, and join us as we strive to BE the church together!
Some Current Opportunities To Serve Include:
- Christmas Boxes - holiday gifts for the homeless and those in need in our community. Please check out a box (or two or three!) at the Mission table at church on Sunday mornings through November 6th. Wrap and fill the box(es) according to the instructions provided, and return by November 20th. Gifts will be distributed at the "Our Daily Bread" client Christmas party in December.
· ZOE Ministry ~ Giving Hope to Orphans in Africa – Because of the generous and prayerful support of Faith Church, we are now the co-sponsor of the "Athiru Rwujine" Working Group in Kenya!! This group is made up of 21 orphan households (89 family members!!) that we will help to support through the Giving Hope Program over the next 3 years. Please keep these children, their mentors and their ZOE social workers in your prayers as they begin the journey that, through God's guidance, their efforts, and our support, will take them from despair and poverty to independence, food security and hope in the light of Christ. To make a donation to help support this ministry, please make your check payable to Faith UMC with "ZOE Ministry" written in the memo line. Donations may be sent directly to the church office or be placed in the offering baskets on Sunday mornings.
· 1st Meal – Faith Church, in partnership with other area churches, will help to provide a weekly breakfast for the homeless and those in need in our community. The breakfasts will be held each Sunday morning at First UMC in downtown Denton. Faith will support this effort on the fourth Sunday of each month. Folks to help cook, serve, fellowship and worship with the guests will be needed. This is a great opportunity for individuals and small groups to serve! Please stop by the mission table to sign up as part of a 1st Meal team or contact Sarah at sarah@comminnovations.com .
