August 9, 2018: Back to School

I think “Back to School” season is one of my favorite times of the year. There is something about getting a fresh start — to learn, to grow, to set new goals, to dream of what is to come (to buy new office supplies …) — that makes me pause to take stock of the amazing things going on around me, and look forward to all the incredible things to come.

Already in my time as your pastor, I have seen the wonderful ways that God is at work at Faith. Through the Hickory Creek Back to School Bash, I see the ways that you are willing to pull together to get to know your neighbors. Through this Sunday’s Backpack Blessing, we will all see that you love and support our students, our teachers and administrators and school staffs, and that we will work to help raise these students to be kind and generous adults. One of our littlest humans handed me a stack of dollar bills on Sunday from a lemonade stand that she held in her neighborhood to help buy backpacks; this is absolutely proof in the work that the Holy Spirit is doing in our church and in our community.

I love that the hallmarks of Faith UMC are kindness, generosity, and grace. It is apparent in the way you love your neighbors, and the way I know you will continue to love and support your church.

Pastoral Plug: on August 25th, we are holding “Love Your Church Day!” at our church to help give it some TLC. We have a LOT of projects that we would like to work on that would make our church more visible from the road immediately, as well as little updates and patch-ups that we would like to do inside. We need your help! You can RSVP to our Facebook event on our Faith United Methodist Church page, or make a note on your Connection Card in worship on Sunday to be put in a work group. We need all hands on deck!

It is a joy and a privilege to be your pastor. I’m looking forward to being with you all on Sunday for Backpack Blessing, as well as the start of our new sermon series: “A Future with Hope.” We have some fun twists planned for worship—you won’t want to miss this!

All the best,

Jenna Morrison
