Serve Community

Mission Matters

Opportunities to bless and be in ministry with our community and our world include:

Partnership with McNair Elementary School

Volunteers from Faith UMC serve as mentors, classroom helpers, and reading buddies. This is a commitment to serve one hour, once a week during the school year. Faith also launched and runs a monthly Birthday Book Club for the students at McNair Elementary to promote literacy. Volunteers also provide additional help in the school’s Environmental Learning Area, and for special events such as Read Across America, and the Fall Carnival.

Mission Matters

Partnership with Cumberland Children’s Home

We are delighted that many of the children, teens, and staff from Cumberland Presbyterian Children’s Home participate regularly in worship at Faith. Faith volunteers also serve as mentors for these students and participate in activities on the Cumberland campus to further build these important relationships.

Disaster Early Response Team (D-ERT)

Members of this team have received FEMA-recognized training and authorization through the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) to be deployed to assist communities in the early days after a major disaster. DERT members are called to provide a Christian presence to survivors in an affected area, work to help stabilize their personal property, and to manage and report needs of the community.

People in Need (PIN) Fund

This fund allows our church to help meet emergency needs of individuals within our community during difficult financial circumstances. As funds allow, needs that are met include food, diapers, formula, gas, utility bills, and transportation.

If you would like information on how to apply for assistance, or on how to contribute to this fund, please contact the church office at 940-535-2267 or at [email protected].

Summer Lunch Ministry

Faith volunteers serve daily lunches through the summer to neighborhood kids who normally receive free lunches at school. Lunches are provided to us. Volunteers are asked to commit a full week (if possible) to daily, 1-hour shifts (shift time is 11:45 am – 12:45 pm). In 2015, 751 lunches were served. Last summer, 1567 were served!

Partnerships with other global and local organizations

Partnerships include United Methodist Committee on Relief, ZOE, Proyecto Abrigo, Hearts for Homes, Friends of the Family and the Denton Together Coalition.
